1 - Forgotten Planes
A manifestation of my belief that form is transcendent and that the ability of the camera to record reality is the least of its possibilities. View 24 images currently online.

2 - Artifacts
Objects from nature undergoing transformations, by light as well as decay. What I find fascinating are the worlds hidden within these common place things. Metaphor seems to surface when an unexpected grace or tension or, sometimes, a lack of clarity is revealed. 16 x 20 inch prints in an edition of 15 of each. View 39 images currently online.

3 - Creatures
In the end, Creatures seem to offer a glimpse at my own humanity. They appear to provide a way to explore the rich metaphor that lies within us without appearing to do so. A way of tricking myself. I like that. View 30 images currently online.

4 - Emotions
I dressed an actor friend in a loin cloth and skull cap and powdered his whole body to make him more abstract and universal. This was not about photographing a model. I didn't want these images to be portraits of Dan, or anyone, but rather portraits of different emotions. View 26 images currently online.

5 - Pathfinder
49 abstract to semi-abstract images hopefully capturing the sense that hidden in the light reflected by walls and the shadows generated by them lie embedded secrets and emotions. The small size of these prints, 4 x 5 inches, creates tension with the monumental nature of the subject matter. My first mature body of work dating from 1976. View 28 images currently online.

6 - Lost Landscapes
The 36 images in the series are bigger, more abstract and textural than those in Pathfinder. Maybe even more concerned with surface treatment rather than depth and perspective. Heavier use of intense black and the elimination of black altogether. My goal was to create dreamlike, semi-surreal landscapes using architecture. View 29 images currently online.

7 - Pantheon
Although this body of work appears, at first glance, to be about the female form, hopefully it is not perceived as the typical "fine art nude photography". It is more my intention to be concerned with myth and the distortion of scale. Two elements that contribute to my belief that "Everything is also something else". View 24 images currently online.

8 - Watermark
Just as light reveals the presence of a watermark on a piece of paper, light is the defining element in these photographs. for a moment, light creates volume and shadows, revealing something that passes as quickly as a musical note. View 23 images currently online.

9 - Texas Rangeland
The rangeland of texas seems to be more than a physical place. It seems more a landscape that lives in the subconscious inhabited by near mythical creatures. A book of this series has been published by the University of Texas Press and was released in November, 2002. View 33 images currently online.

10 - Paper Constructions
Architecture, to me, is about the enclosure of light so, having been trained as an architect and not being able to work outside one winter, I set about capturing light with paper. This lead to building paper sculptures that I would then light and photograph. It is the pure impact of color, light and form that drove these images. View 22 images currently online.

11 - Metropolis
The forms of our cities are like a language that reveals who we are. They become words that speak and I hear stories. To me, in an image, people are more present when absent, for it is then that I can begin to imagine, just as I do when listening to chronicles of the past. It is then that I can feel myself in those forms. Current work in progress. View 30 images currently online.

12 - Under the Shadow of Baja
Created in the late 80's on a road trip down the Baja Peninsula . The road was primitive, the villages were primitive and, except for Cabo San Lucas, there were few tourists. Like stepping back in time. There was a feeling of another century and the land itself was stunningly beautiful. There was an ancient feeling of timelessness about it. I have never forgotten it.
